Description

Spacious 1BD with Remodeled Kitchen and Lots of Natural Light in Inner Richmond - THE APARTMENT:

This spacious, second floor unit features hardwood flooring throughout, except for the carpeted bedroom and linoleum-floored bathroom. The large wall of west-facing windows allow for an abundance of natural light and fresh air to flow through the main living space. The kitchen features recently installed white shaker style cabinetry and stainless steel appliances including a dishwasher that show little wear. The unit features three closets in the living space, in addition to a large closet in the bedroom with half-panel, plantation bi-fold doors. The building offers an on-site laundry room, and uncovered parking is available for $200 a month.

THE NEIGHBORHOOD: THE INNER RICHMOND

This Inner Richmond apartment has a Walk Score of 99/100, as most daily errands don't require a car! Walk or jog along the lake at Mountain Lake Park, one of San Francisco's last surviving natural lakes and the only natural lake in the entire 80,000-acre Golden Gate National Recreation Area. This lakeside retreat is just a half block away, and offers picnic spots, a basketball half-court, a built-in fitness circuit, four tennis courts, and a popular off-leash dog play area. Or bring your binoculars for a water wildlife safari on the lake's south side, where 65 different bird species visit the lake each year, before continuing their journey along the "migratory superhighway" from Alaska to South America. Children enjoy the sand-floor playground with slides, swings and a climbing structure. The covered picnic pavilion can be reserved for birthday parties and other events. The #1 California MUNI line is nearby.

The recent tech boom has brought an influx of young professionals who prefer a more casual setting to live than some of the eastern neighborhoods. It’s also one of the most diverse neighborhoods in terms of age. The University of San Francisco lies on the eastern edge and brings in students, but there’s an array of families, professionals, and older people as well. This neighborhood is comfortable and practical and it doesn’t have the grittiness of neighborhoods closer to downtown San Francisco.

Lots of produce markets dot the street corners, and a huge selection of restaurants can be found primarily in modest settings. Housing is also older and diverse, and includes Edwardian homes, cottages, and row houses. Inner Richmond is in a state of renewal: there are many projects aimed at revitalizing housing, restructuring streets to better accommodate traffic, and tree planting to spruce up the neighborhood. Several bus lines run here from other parts of the city and downtown. Most of the shops are small and can be found on Geary and Clement Streets, but a Safeway, Target, Trader Joe’s, and other big names can be found along the edges.

The Inner Richmond offers a great compromise of the urban and suburban -- it has both the energy of pedestrians, shops, cafes, and Irish bars as well as quiet nights, a low crime rate, and plenty of good schools. And then there’s the Presidio to the north and Golden Gate Park to the south. Inner Richmond borders the half of the park with the most things to see and do (other than nature): the Conservatory of Flowers, de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences, the Japanese Tea Garden, and the Botanical Gardens. Like any neighborhood in the western part of the city, though, be prepared for wind and fog, but also a relatively lower cost of living.
