One of the bedrooms has a walk-in closet with a window looking out into the loft below. The other bedroom has a large closet, some limited storage space in the attached mechanical room and two exterior windows facing west. The entry foyer has a nice wooden built-in bench backed by a glass brick window. The washer and gas dryer are in a small separate room within the loft. The large open kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave oven, dishwasher and in-sink garbage disposal. It has lot of cabinet and counter space.
The main area's open living space features a 16' high ceiling, an exposed brick wall, wide plank oak flooring, a new ceiling fan and plenty of natural light from western facing windows and three large skylights. The half bath is on the lower level close to the kitchen.
The central HVAC system provides electric heat and air conditioning. The rear outdoor parking lot reserves two vehicle spots for each loft. There is also plenty of free street parking on High St. in front of the building. The property is safe and secure. The front gated locked entrance is controlled by the video camera intercom system managed from within the loft.
This historic building was built in 1901 (see historic plaque in photo section) and totally restored in 2004. It has been featured twice in the Home and Design Sections of the Virginian-Pilot newspaper.
LOCATION:
Conveniently located between the downtown and midtown tunnels as well as the Jordan Bridge, all leading into Norfolk. If you are stationed at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, you can walk to work in about 5 to10 minutes. The Norfolk naval shipyard is about a 5 minute drive away. The Coast Guard Cedar Lane facility is about a 10 to 15 minute drive. The ferry from Portsmouth to Norfolk and Harbor Park Baseball Stadium is at the foot of High St. about a 15 minute walk away. All of the downtown restaurants, stores, museums, entertainment and marinas are easily walkable just across Effingham St.
