The community has an array of professionally furnished common spaces including a shared living room and expansive community kitchen with dual stoves, fridges, and dishwashers. There’s also a backyard fire pit, coworking nook, and rentable private studio space on-site. The most loved community space at The Union is the stunning rooftop deck with sunset views of downtown Oakland.

The Union is only 2 blocks from West Oakland Bart (5 minutes to Downtown Oakland, 7 minutes to Downtown San Francisco). The West Oakland neighborhood is known for its strong culture, local art studios, and unique fusion restaurants. We love these West Oakland small local businesses and restaurants:
• Mandela Grocery Cooperative (0.2 miles) for healthy food and wellness resources

Members rent private bedrooms while coming together in beautifully furnished common areas to attend community dinners, host events, and share each others presence. We provide beautiful homes for members and a variety of community development programs including communication workshops, coaching on shared food & shared decision making, and events with other OpenDoor communities.
Our members regularly share with us that living in an OpenDoor community is one of the most meaningful experiences in their lives – whether it’s making lifelong friends, learning from housemates, or feeling a greater sense of belonging.
