Description
Room 3 at The Maker House
Hey there Everyone! :)
If you are looking for a relaxed, clean, and peaceful roommate situation, this is likely the place for you. The house is 111 years old, huge, fully restored, has Google Fiber internet, theres off street parking, and the common areas are fully furnished. Theres a pool table, on site laundry, a well stocked kitchen, comfy couches, and beautiful artwork. The house is kept clean and its usually pretty quiet. Your private room itself is 110 sqft, has a closet, and comes with a wall mounted smart TV provided. You can furnish your room however you like.
A bit of history: I used to run this house as a small hotel for extended stay travelers for a little over 3 years. This means the common areas are set up for easy, high-quality living. After that, My sister and her family then lived here with me for 3.5 years and it was great. Now they have thier own house and Im happy to welcome in new Roommates.
Bathrooms and Layout: There is total of 3.5 bathrooms in the property. 1.5 of them are accessible via main common areas. The full bathroom is on the 2nd floor where the bedrooms are located. There is also a half bathroom off the kitchen area. There is also a full bathroom in the finished attic area and thats my bedroom. There is also a full bathroom in the basement. The common areas are on the ground floor.
The Neighborhood: For the Area, the house is near 18th street and I-70. Amenities like a full grocery store and gas station are very close by. The rest of the city is very easy to access via highway from here. Downtown KCMO is just 10 minutes away. Theres also lots of great hole in the wall Hispanic restaurants and food trucks all around this neighborhood. Its personally one of my favorite parts of this place.
About the Roomies
My Dogs name is Waffles and Im Erik. Waffles is a big old sweetheart and usually spends 80% of his day passed out. Lol, Usually nearby wherever I am and laying on something soft. Those are his two primary motivations in life. Hes my ESA and best bud.
As for me, Im a Renaissance Man. Currently Im an IT professional who works from home. Im an Enterprise Application Administrator at SelectQuote Insurance. I gotta say, working from home is probably the best lifestyle Ive ever gotten to have. Prior to IT, I had my own Handyman and Remodeling company for 5 years. I also restored this entire place myself. Prior to construction, I was a Molecular Biologist for 10 years. Lots of shiny equipment that went beep. If theres things you want to know about me, feel free to ask. Im happy to share stories of adventures and misadventures.
Overall the house is quiet. Sure, I fire up tools in the garage on the regular but that noise doesnt make its way into the house. If i know theres something noisy i need to do in the house, i make sure to let people know ahead of time. Im an early riser and I usually am working in the basement or on an assortment of projects.
Community Operations and Expectations:
1. Kitchen & Storage: Within the kitchen everyone has clearly labeled areas for storing thier food/belongings and the shared plates, bowls, pots, pans, etc. are also clearly labeled.
2. Cleanliness: We all work together to keep the common areas in good shape. I also help with keeping things clean. Ive got quite a few tricks on that from the hotel days.
3. Vibe: The remaining three rooms are currently open, so the final group dynamic is still forming. That said, Ive found that generally speaking roommates Ive had in the past are easy going, tidy, and have found this place to be a bastion of peace. A safe harbor where they can rest, relax, and work towards their next big chapter in life. Who knows where the next adventures will take you?
Couple of House Policies (The Details):
1. Cannabis: Im completely fine with people enjoying cannabis. Just no smoking in the house and please keep your stash in a smell proof container.
2. Occupany and Guests: Due to local zoning occupancy laws, I can only rent to individuals. No Couples. Sorry. Overnight guests, I wont bat an eye. They just need to sleep in your room. Also if your going to have a guest more than a week, lets chat about it first.
3. Privacy and Security: Every room has keypad deadbolts. Each person gets a unique code. That code will open exterior doors and your bedroom. No one elses bedroom. I value peoples privacy immensely.
4. Communication and Conflict: I prefer open, direct communication. If any roommate disagreements arise, well talk them out, and Im happy to act as a neutral mediator if needed.
5. Pets: Small animals like hamsters, gerbils, frogs, etc are totally okay. Same for fish tanks 20 gallons or less. While Id love to allow Cats, Im radically allergic to cats and Waffles reacts at them. Other dogs... maybe. The property doesnt have a fenced in area and wed need to see if its a good match for the dogs.
6. Contact: You are welcome to text me. I screen unknown numbers, so texting is the best way to get a quick response.
