Description
The Room:
Private bedrooms are available in a large house in the Neighborhood of the Arts. All utilities— including high-speed internet, washer & dryer, gas, electric, water, refuse, and composting—are included. This room is a brightly-lit newly-carpeted 1st floor room with a semi-private half-bath. Off-street parking is available. This room may be partially furnished, depending on needs.
The House, aka Töst:
We live in a 3-story, 6-bedroom house next to a big brick church. We call it Töst. A shared open office/studio, a full living room, and a half bath are found alongside one of the available rooms on the first floor. Three other rooms, a full bath, and the kitchen are on the second floor. The two other bedrooms are located in the finished attic. The house is part of a larger community vision called DUTCH (see below). We live in two rooms and we're looking for folks to live in two of the four remaining rooms with short-term (3-4mo) leases with the option to renew.
DUTCH:
DUTCH is an ecosystem designed around all things relating to music. We're proud to provide our members with space to write, collaborate, rehearse, and perform their musical creations. We also host events that foster community through a shared passion for music. The church next door to our house is the primary venue. You don't have to be a musician to live at Töst; neither of us are! If you are, though, DUTCH has lots of opportunities. Check out @DUTCHcreates on social media to stay up on community updates and event details.
The Location:
We're located at Alexander and Main, which means we're right in the middle of everything! The Public Market, the Dryden & The Little, the East End, Eastman Theater, NOTA shops and restaurants, Hot Shots, Park Ave, the Village Gate, the MAG, RoCo, a million coffee shops and bars, etc, etc, are all walkable. We're right around the corner from the Inner Loop for all your highway needs. Price Rite and Wegmans are less than two miles away.
The Roommates:
We're two mid-30's, male-identifying, kind extroverts with library cards. One is a theater kid trapped in the body of a biologist (ENFP), the other an engineer who seems to be willingly occupying the body of an ~Italian~ engineer (ESFJ?). We make our own ice cream, we keep the house clean, and we love to be outside. We host dinner parties, we do crossword puzzles, and sometimes we argue about lighting fixtures. We tend towards extroversion but we recognize that's not the only way to be and we are practiced in respecting the needs of others who are not like us.
You:
Looking for a respectful and kind roommate who is willing to contribute to our growing community. We expect that you can communicate your needs, set your boundaries, and take ownership of some basic housemate chores. To reiterate: you don't need to be a musician to live here (neither of us are) but if you are, there are lots of opportunities to plug into at DUTCH! Ideally you have excitement for strange projects and respectful community living. We hope to live with folks that share a willingness to actively engage in personal growth.
When:
The room will be available March 15 for a 3-4-month lease with check-ins and the opportunity to extend.
Some Straight-Talk
To be frank, this house sounds like it could be a nightmare. A “community house” could easily be code for “dorm carpeted with Genny cans” and “next to a music venue” could be fatal for a person who isn't that into music. Here's the deal though: we're humans with jobs who usually clean our bathrooms and like it quiet at night. We're not going to pretend like we won't have parties every once in a while, but we're not building a party house. Our focus is building a genuine, meaningful community at DUTCH. That means we are centering a collaborative experience so we can say that if you're looking for a place to just have a room and not interact, we're probably not going to be a great fit. That all being said, if you're kinda interested but have questions or reservations, just reach out and ask! We can't have cats (sorry!) but we're open to having a conversation about dogs.
