Things To Do:
Welcome to Leland, just across the river from Wilmington, NC! Whether you are here for the golf, a wedding, the college, the downtown, or the beach, we have the perfect vacation home for your visit. Our waterfront downtown region is the highlight of a great Wilmington vacation. Downtown Wilmington is steeped in history, filled with attractions, and offers all the enticing restaurants and shops of a major city, while retaining its small-town coastal charm. Surrounded by the Cape Fear River, the Intracoastal Waterway and the ocean, a world class beach is a stones throw in any direction from Wilmington.
On the Leland side of the river, take a day trip to the Historic City of Southport for waterfront dining, boat rides, and downtown boutique shopping. A five mile ride will take you to public beach access on Oak Island: known for its golden sand beaches, calming blue waters, and friendly community. Some of the best restaurants along the East Coast are in the Southport-Oak Island area. There are many cute coffee shops, great stores, breweries, and OKI is even the home to a park that showcases concerts and a splash-pad for summer fun!
Pleasure Island is a ferry ride from Southport over to Fort Fisher, where you can take a trip back in time at the Fort Fisher State Historic Site and Museum featuring live oak covered trails and bunkers from the American Civil War. Stroll through the marsh to visit the home of the famous Ft. Fisher Hermit. Or explore nature at our two state parks, with hiking, fishing, and water activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking. Search for a Venus Flytrap which is native to NC only. As one of North Carolina's most undeveloped beaches, the island offers a unique opportunity to see many diverse coastal wildlife, including pelicans and loggerhead sea turtles, in their natural habitat.
Continue up Pleasure Island to explore the treasures of Carolina Beach, ranked one of the top 10 boardwalks in the country by Food & Wine magazine. One of the last remaining beach boardwalks on the East Coast, it includes a variety of restaurants, arcade, shops, ice cream, Famous Britts Donuts, bars, and an amusement park during the summer! Annual off- season events in Carolina Beach include the Cape Fear Kite Festival, Christmas by the Sea, and the Island of Lights Festival.
On a Second or Third day trip, Cross to the Wilmington side of the river to find Wrightsville Beach; a seaside town named as one of the world’s best surf towns by National Geographic. Get a true feel for island life and experience the uncrowded shore and mild temperatures of Wrightsville Beach, where you could be fishing, paddle boarding, or shelling in crystal-clear waters, or just enjoy long, romantic walks on NC’s most accessible beach.
We look forward to you visiting us!
