HELLMAN BUILDING: The Hellman Building was constructed in 1902 on the former site of Herman Hellman’s one story cottage at the corner of South Main and 4th Street. Its six story structure features green terra cotta and classical details representative of commercial architecture in the early 20th century. When it was built, it was the largest steel frame building in Los Angeles. The ground floor is home to several art galleries, a local market, critically-acclaimed restaurants and a salon.

NEIGHBORHOOD: The Old Bank District is part of DTLA’s vibrant Historic Core. It is characterized by turn-of-the-century commercial buildings that have been converted into residential lofts, shops, galleries, restaurants, bars and nightlife following the city's 1999 passage of the adaptive reuse ordinance. Residential lofts in the Old Bank District are characterized by urban architectural design elements, like exposed concrete, high ceilings, and exposed duct work.
